I completly agree with metzpop. You can relate this story to almost any place and time in history or present. I was first confused about what was going on, but soon I was able to get into it. Even though the entire thing took place in a cell, I could picture Winston at work, or at the antique shop or out in the woods. I felt the actors made the scenery.

While the play was presented in one setting, the actors and story grabbed your attention so the constant senery of the torture cell was not boring or tiresome. The 6 actors managed to show different characters and points of view well. Going into the play, having not read 1984, I could actually understand the plot relativley easily.

I just wanted to bring up that my religious school history teacher saw it, but he said it was terribly acted, not enough nudity Razz ext...

I just wanted to bring another part into this discussion, i will talk to him monday about why exactly he disliked the play.

I personally thought that it was very well acted, i thought that the sound effects were not great and made me lose focus on the plot. And as for it being in one spot (deathdonut) I totally agree they made it become real, it was incredible. I was so lost in the play the entire time, lost refers to both confused and immersed, reminds me of the matrix.

I really liked the acting because the party members were so cut and dry and emotionless except for a few key moments when they seemed to get caught up in Winston's story. Now that I've started reading the book, I think that the acting really conveyed Orwell's writing.

The format of the play was definately interesting, albeit confusing at first. I found that the acting out of the journal by the party members to really help the story along. Without this the play would not be nearly as interesting. It was also interesting how the madness of Winston was like a contagion and slowly spread to the other party members and only the interrogatpor on the outside of the room was safe.
